Mesothelioma is a deadly cancer that has caused several fatalities; one of which was the former legend of the NFL, Merlin Olsen, who discovered the presence of the illness only in its advanced stage. This is one of the characteristics of mesothelioma; its symptoms start to manifest decades after the victim contracted the disease. This makes treatment and recuperation next to impossible.
It was known that the culprit for the cancer is exposure to asbestos. The late Merlin Olsen blamed the big companies of NBS Universal Studios, 20th Century Fox Films and Lennox Industries for his illness and filed legal charges against them.
A few months earlier, mesothelioma vaccine was introduced which is currently making a breakthrough in the lives of many individuals who have been victims of this fatal disease.
Dutch scientists are conducting further clinical trials employing the new vaccine with immunotherapy. Reports of the study revealed that the vaccine integrates with the body's immune system enabling the dendritic T-cells to generate anti-mesothelioma antigens. Currently, chemotherapy and radiation as treatment are taking the backseat.
The medical field and all those who were afflicted with mesothelioma are banking on the breakthrough promise of this new vaccine.
